The “Japan International Arbitration Week” was held in Tokyo from November 18 to 22, 2024.
As one of Japan’s efforts to promote international arbitration, this was the first-ever event focusing on international arbitration in Japan in cooperation with the key organizations: the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Japan Association of Arbitrators (JAA) and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA). Approximately 1,300 people from all over the world registered the event in total.
The one-week event included:
– a panel discussion among an official of the Ministry of Justice, members from JAA and JCAA, international arbitration practitioners and a representative of domestic companies on the advantages of using arbitration and mediation in Japan
– a mock Arb-Med-Arb in cooperation with overseas arbitral institutions;
– panel discussions by the JCAA, targeting domestic and overseas users;
– training for arbitration practitioners in cooperation with overseas arbitration-related organizations; and,
– a seminar held by a company operating a facility for arbitration hearings.
The Ministry of Justice will continue its efforts to promote international arbitration in cooperation with relevant organizations.
