On 13 May 2019, a joint seminar on international arbitration and mediation was held at the Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association Auditorium, organized by the Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association and the State Bar of California, with the support of the Ministry of Justice of Japan.
At this seminar, Mr. MATSUI Nobukazu, Director of the International Affairs Division, Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Justice of Japan, delivered opening remarks explaining the Ministry’s initiatives to promote international arbitration. Subsequently, attorneys Mr. KAWABATA Yutaro and Ms. MAEDA Yoko from the Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association reported on developments in international arbitration and mediation in Japan. Mr. Neil Popovich from the California State Bar Association reported on trends in international ADR in California. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Mr. TAKATORI Yoshihiro, with Mr. Kawabata, Ms. Maeda and Mr. Popovich.
